About Us

A voluntary organization run by leprosy sufferers for welfare of leprosy sufferers, the Centre has been working for rehabilitation of forsaken handicapped leprosy cured and their children over the 43 years in the District of Purulia, W.B. In a brief reference to the background leading to the formation of the Centre, we may say that more than four decades back, forsaken by the society, and dehabilitated, a number of leprosy sufferers took shelter in outskirts of Adra town that is Manipur. Since then, facing the vagaries of an uprooted and ostracized life, with apathy and sympathy of the parent society, amidst woes and sorrows, mirth’s and merriments of their own, these refugees in own homeland held on their existence till 1980 when they formed a Registered Society, i.e. ‘MANIPUR LEPROSY REHABILITATION CENTRE’, because they had realized that their existence otherwise would be a nomadic and abominable life.

MOVEMENTS & REALIZATIONS:

Following sustained movements and agitations made unitedly, they have secured civic rights, treatment, school, ICDS, Text Book Library, electricity, ponds, wells, tubewells, land, buildings and Children Home for education, care and protection of 150 destitute children of neglected leprosy sufferers. These children come from different places and receive free fooding , lodging, education, medical attention etc., with the social welfare Deptt. W.B., giving grant-in-aid. Be it mentioned here that in our march forward so far, we nevertheless, had the blessing and guidance of many distinguished social workers and well-wishers from different walks of life, and also co-operation from administrative, Panchayet levels and other NGOs. In sum, what we are to day has been a symbol of retrieved humanity brought about with interaction amongst the conscious sections and the ostracized, but determined, section of the society.

OUR MISSION

Development of resources by-

Promoting education health, growth of healthy mentally of leprosy sufferers with particular attention given to their children.
Developing their faculty through health education, work education and awareness.
Associating them in the great task of society’s output by making them good citizens with sense of
human value.
Restoring their social identity and status with dignity, and by removing their inferiority complex.
Providing sheltered life care, attention to needy aged, Making available free counseling / consultancy service to needy leprosy sufferers and others.

OUR VISION

The organisation started on 11/12/1979 with the vision to stop dehabilitation, harassment and nomadic life of leprosy patients, provide shelter homes avocational, cultural progress, sports, recreational activities, care and protection, medical & hospital facilities, to promote social reintegration of ostracized leprosy sufferers and their dependents.

The NGo was registered under west Bengal societies Registration Act. xxvl of l961. Registrarion No. S/27065 of 1979-80.
The NGO was Registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 1976; Govt. of lndia. Registration No-147070047.
The NGO was Registered under Income Tax Act (Exemption) 1961 u/s 12A & 80G .
